sidebar category listing

Hi

I'm trying to add a category list in the sidebar to make it more user friendly for the customer to just click to the right item on the home page to show the list like property cars or item.
But all I get is just the category name without the link to the category
I'm trying many ways to display it with link and counter
in the category it shows the cat- with counter but on the home page it shows only the main cat without link ?
It's really difficult to find the right way to do it
it would be great if some one can point me to the right option or any example with tutorial how to make it !

No i don't have the category tree plugin
and yes you can see my website https://sanabana.com/

i have add some category like "FOR SALE CATEGORIES" and it is display all fine but the property category
just show the text without link on the home page

I have install the category tree
but there is no option where i can see on the left menu at the backend panel

is this work with my version 4.8.0 ?
