I think a simple forum plugin would be a great addition to the script.
Its ofcourse possible to link it with other forum scripts but they usually have a lot of features you dont use.
And if you have a forum login which adds a nice ajax forum like: http://boonex.us/forum/
And with hardly no frontend options, just if you create a thread or reply to one you get notified on new response, if not you're not.
And the backend just create categories and stuff.
