currently my categories are displayed in alphabetical order on the home page and i would like to change it to have a dominant category first.
There's got to be a simple way to do this in 4.0, i'm using the general template.
i have tried admin>>categories and manually changing the position number of the categories, but this has no effect.
what else should i do?

Hello Colin,
To change the categories order you should:
1. go to Admin Panel >> Listing Types and click on Edit button for necessary type
2. search for "Category order type" option and change it to "Position"
3. Go to categories manager and set necessary orders for them

Let me know if you have further questions.

Thanks, that was helpful. I have changed your quote above to match the words that appeared on my admin section, although it was pretty easy to translate this.
maybe a change for flynax4.0.

I have a problem. I sorted by ORDER but one of the categories just persisted in the wrong order. I even deleted and added it again, assigned it a lower number but it still remained at the bottom.

Hello,

We've checked the categories on your site and haven't found the problem in sorting alphabetically. Could you please provide us the screen with problem or you can submit a ticket to our technical support.

We've considered your ticket; now we understand what you meant. You can configure it in your admin panel: Listing Types -> Edit -> Category Sorting Type

Hi Vladimir,

I need it to be sorted by ORDER, not by ALPHABETICS. Because if sorted
alphabetics, it will display as D1, D10.. instead of D1, D2.. etc. I have already
marked their position numbers accordingly and when sorted by ORDER,
everything was displayed according to their position numbers except for the
category Ang Mo Kio. It just doesn't display according to its position
number. Kindly advise. Thanks!

JJ

You should make rebuild the categories by levels in your admin panel.

I have a quick question, i have a category for MG and one for MINI, but they both display in my make/model content box before categories like Maserati and Mazda, is this because my MG, and MINI are in capital letters,

I have mine to sort alphabetically and have already tried the rebuild categories by levels.
