Hi Flynax-Team,

IMHO it would be an important to store the ip-address of a user who creates

registers
creates a listing
post a comment

Because different countries has different laws and maybe some lawyer would get the owner of a classified site into regress.
Example: A user posts an "unqualified" comment and you get a letter by a lawyer or visit from prosecution...

Maybe the owner is forced to give out the ip-address of the user.

I know, that ip-addresses can be faked, but this would be a feature the owner will be safe (in sense of law).

you get a letter by a lawyer or visit from prosecution...would not a well worded terms etc provide a option there ? in that you can not be responsible for others post and that you may remove material not appropriate on notification ?

Also the spam plug-in will give you a reading of the ip i think if you select a user as suspended so the ip must be recorded somewhere already ? might be wrong on that, but even so i doubt I or anyone would know the rules for every country at any given time, that would be very hard to keep up with so back to just some basic terms etc.

How ever, only terms won't protect really.

Example:
I started with the escort script.
Somewhere an evil guy wants to treat his ex-girlfriend and posts her photo included her mobile phone number as a listing.
Now the ex-girlfriend gets some calls of guys interesting her profile. I think, she won't be amused...

In this situation the the hoster of the classified-script gets some problems...

At moment I'm storing the ip-address of an user in the commenting-plugin. If somebody interested, i will post the code here.

Storing IP-Address will imho change the core code, and we will get some problems with future updates of the script. It would be better, if Flynax can build this into a feature release.

Best regards and thx.

In this situation the the hoster of the classified-script gets some problems... how , are you saying you are resposible for other people actions ? i doubt it with an escort type surley part of the terms are that any images are yours only type thing ?

below from one of my sites adjust to suit / but as always you must take your own legal council and resposibilities. but being responsible for others / with any site anyone can post anything, so it is more a resposibility of what is done with content that should not be there. ? classified sites are full of crap and the only way your going to stop it is to put everything on pre approval and police every post down to the last detail before publishing it ?

Yes, I agree with you. That is common sense.

But if you will serve in Germany, there applies "liability for interference". :(
It is not understandable, but it is reality in Germany.

How ever, I will take a look how to build in the "IP-storing". :)

It is almost a necessity (IMO) to see the ip addresses of every account created. Like Wordpress, as the admin you can see if someone is creating multiple accounts and take action accordingly.

This is especially useful to help track down spam accounts. I have been having a number of ip address bogging the site down only to find out after the site was overloaded that these ip addresses came from malicious accounts. The auto reg prevention plugin is not enough to avoid this issue. Seeing the ip addresses in admin would help us block malicious accounts.
